The Grimoire of Saint Benedict is a book of magick written by an actual practitioner of the Forbidden Arts translated into rules for the ESPER Horror TTRPG. It contains a section explaining exactly how magick works (both in the real world and in the game), a list of magickal traditions for your characters to practice and the magickal methods by which they can accomplish their goals, a description of how skepticism negatively effects spellcasting and rules for people who have never experienced the supernatural, a description of how to create your own spells, a list of individual spell effects to add to your magick, and a grimoire of spells combining these effects to illustrate how you can use them to achieve almost any magickal solution.

Includes:

  • Four types of magickal beliefs: Animism, Monotheism, Polytheism, and Syncretism
  • Eight schools of magick: Shamanism, Paganism, Devotional Magick, Witchcraft, Alchemy, Folk Magick, Ceremonial Magick, and Divination
  • Eighteen magickal methods: Bardic Magick, Blood Magick, Divinatory Magick, Ecstatic Magick,  Entheogenic Magick, Familiar Magick, Focus Magick, Handcasting, Incantation, Practical Magick, Pranic Magick, Prayer, Ritual Magick, Scholarly Magick, Sigilism, Sympathetic Magick, Talismanic Magick, and Will Magick.
  • Thirty-seven magickal effects which can be combined to create any spell you can imagine.
  • Thirty spells to illustrate how to use the spell effects practically.

Make sure to check out the other ESPER expansions: the main campaign setting, the Agent Classification Manual, and the Creature Codex. Be sure to leave comments so I know how to make the game better!

WARNING: This book purports to be written by a 13th century ascetic monk, but it actually is written by a modern day practicing occultist and contains some information which may be extremely upsetting to some.
