The Road Wars
A downloadable game
Submitted as part of the "I wasn't going to make this anyway" jam. i AM planning on making this game, and would love to start forming a community around it now.
In the bleak future after the bombs fell, life has become a single instinctual push to survive. Roadwars rage constantly on the Highway to Hell between Roadrunner gangs and the various Charlatans and Grippers they work for.
A strategy simulation inspired by the great Road War 2000, which was my favorite Commodore 64 game growing up. I used to love how the manuals to all those old games seemed like a doorway into the world of the game, and even double as strategy guides. I tried to copy that old nostalgic feeling as I worked on this, and I am really excited to share the result with you.
Here's hoping you enjoy it! And make sure you keep an eye out as I'm going to start working on the real game soon!
UPDATE: I've decided to start making the game as part of the One Game a Month Jam, having utilized the Celebration theme to craft a new game mechanic: camping allows you to hold rituals where your gang leader (YOU) delivers a speech which affects the upgrades and development of the crew.
The Roadwars will focus primarily on exploration, resource scavenging and management, and guiding your gang to survival on the mad streets of the Apocalypse.
The main mechanic of the game is the turn based vehicular combat, where you guide your fleet of vehicles against marauding rival gangs.
Expect a VERY Mad Max inspired style. I've added the current Game Design Document as part of the downloads. If anyone wants to help work on this endeavor, please give me a shout!
